The idea of knitwear to us brings forth the possibility of new concepts in textiles that currently standardised fabric in local markets and mass trade collections cannot offer unless you are catering for premium and haute couture.
Over the last 5 years, knitwear has gone through a regeneration of methods, technique and form that really challenges current minds of the consumer and industry itself.

Being commissioned by Tiwa to create something unique for her performances was very encouraging.
When we made the outfit for her she was blown away that knitwear could look so glamorous.
The designer takes a lot of inspiration from heritage military uniforms and with this particular design for Tiwa, she likened to the ‘King of Pop’, Michael Jackson, whose emphasis on military/ royal attire details on his performance outfits, was in perfect likeness to Tiwa, Nigeria’s Pop queen, and Korlekie; ‘Queen of Eagles’.

THE OUTFIT IN DETAIL:
Tiwa’s custom outfit features a machine knit leotard with cable sleeve design and luxurious fringing on both front and back. It is accompanied with fringed hot pants that were completely fringed by hand to allow for a more “hair like” movement when she moves.
The leotard is embellished with hand encrusted jet beaded tabs, also knitted, featured on the front and also on the hand made shoulder pads for an added authentic military feel.
